Where Hospitality Meets Heritage
A family homestay in the heart of the Himalayas
Haamro Ghar, which means "Our Home" in Nepali, began as a simple dream β to share the warmth and beauty of our Himalayan home with travelers seeking authentic experiences.
We have been living in Mirik, an Indo-Nepal border town since 1997 and are proud of our Indian-Nepalese lineage and history. Hosting has always been a part of our family culture, but we began formally welcoming guests into our home in 2012.
Our house was originally built to accommodate our large family, and over time we decided to open our doors to travellers like you whenever parts of the home remain unoccupied by family and friends. Having travelled as backpackers individually and stayed in Airbnbs and homestays as a family, these journeys inspired us to create a space for those who seek a comfortable, warm, and truly homely environment β one that goes beyond just a usual stay.
Haamro Ghar holds a storehouse of our stories which we would love to exchange with yours. Our home in the heart of Mirik will feel 'home' to you too, no matter how long you stay with us in Mirik. Keeping in mind the needs of today's modern travellers, our space is suitable for both budget short stay travellers and backpackers, as well as to digital nomads, families or those looking for long staycations, or workations, a holiday home or vacation rentals. We are a warm hearted, open minded lot; we welcome every traveller from across the world, but we definitely love the non fussy, responsible kinds :)
At Haamro Ghar, it is also our endeavour to practice responsible hosting in our efforts to support responsible travel and tourism.
We aspire to change the belief of Mirik being just a one-night stopover to Darjeeling as it has traditionally always been.
Stay in Mirik with us. Experience Mirik with us. Explore Mirik with us. Come, give Mirik a chance!
We treat every guest as family, offering genuine warmth and care that goes beyond standard hospitality. Your comfort and happiness are our priorities.
We practice eco-friendly tourism, use locally sourced organic ingredients, minimize waste, and work to preserve the natural beauty around us.
We celebrate and share our rich cultural heritage, traditional practices, and local wisdom with guests who are eager to learn and experience.
We work closely with local farmers, artisans, and guides, ensuring tourism benefits the entire community and not just us.
Every experience we curate is personalized to your interests. We don't do cookie-cutter tourism β your journey is uniquely yours.
While rooted in our local culture, we embrace diversity and create bridges between cultures, fostering understanding and friendship.
This isn't just a homestay β it's our actual home. You'll live alongside us, share meals at our family table, and experience daily life in the Himalayas authentically.
Every meal is prepared fresh using family recipes and ingredients from our kitchen garden or local farms. No hotel buffets β just genuine home cooking with love.
We'll show you places no guidebook mentions and share stories only locals know.
Participate in daily rituals, learn our language, join family celebrations, and truly understand what life is like in these beautiful mountains.
We host only a few guests at a time, ensuring personalized attention and creating a family atmosphere rather than a crowded hotel experience.
Many of our guests return year after year, not just for the beautiful location, but for the friendships formed. You'll leave with a family in the Himalayas.
As hosts, we always strive to practice responsible travel and tourism. We expect you to be mindful during your stay and share in our sustainable practices.
We segregate food and dry waste β composting organic matter and turning recyclables into eco-bricks. Even bin liners are reused whenever possible.
Plastic bottles are avoided entirely. Please carry refillable bottles and use the boiled drinking water we provide. Any bottles left behind are repurposed in our garden.
We reuse containers, avoid single-use plastic, and upcycle discarded items for gardening. Guests are encouraged to use resources mindfully.
Together, we can make every stay a little lighter on the planet β one mindful choice at a time.
Experience the warmth of Himalayan hospitality and create memories that last a lifetime.
